Why There Is No Overtime Loading
The standard argument for an after-hours premium is that the technician is giving up their evening. True enough — but that is a rostering problem for the company to solve, not a surcharge to hand to whoever happens to break down at the wrong hour.
We staff for it instead. Somebody is scheduled to be available outside office hours, and the rate they charge is the rate anybody else pays. It costs us more to run and it removes the single most common argument on an invoice. That trade has worked out well, and it is the reason a good share of the calls into St Cloud AC Repair arrive after six in the evening.
What We Will Come Out For at Night
Being straight about this saves everyone time. Some faults genuinely need somebody that evening; others will be identical in the morning and cheaper for you to wait on, and we will tell you which one you have.
If the house is simply a few degrees warm and everyone is asleep by ten, the morning is usually the better call. If somebody in the house is vulnerable to heat, if there is water coming through a ceiling, or if something smells like it has been burning, that is tonight.
- A total loss of cooling with a heat advisory running
- A resident whose health makes an overheated house genuinely risky
- Water escaping the air handler into a ceiling, wall or cupboard
- Burning smells, scorch marks, or a breaker that trips as soon as it is reset
- A rental or short-let with guests already in it and no other option
- Any system that has iced over solid and cannot be left running
Things Worth Trying Before You Call
Perhaps one call in six ends without a visit, because the fault turns out to be something the homeowner can put right in five minutes. We would rather talk you through it than charge you for the privilege of watching us do it.
Check the breaker at the panel and the disconnect box beside the outdoor unit. Look at the filter — a filter that has collapsed will stop a system dead. Check whether the safety switch on the drain has tripped, which on most air handlers is a small float in the pan or in the drain line. And confirm the thermostat still has working batteries, because a dead thermostat looks exactly like a dead air conditioner.
Landlords, Managers and Short-Lets
A meaningful part of the evening and weekend work is for people who do not live in the property. Letting agents, owners with a handful of units around St Cloud and Narcoossee, and short-let hosts whose guest has just messaged them.
That work runs differently and we set it up to. We can take instruction from a manager, arrange access with a tenant directly, photograph the fault and what we did about it, and invoice the owner rather than whoever happened to open the door.
Questions We Get Asked
- Is the weekend rate really the same?
- Yes, for the repair itself and for the diagnostic. There is no evening loading, no weekend multiplier and no holiday rate. The only thing that changes outside office hours is that certain suppliers are shut, so an unusual part may have to wait until Monday.
- How late will you actually answer?
- Calls are answered into the evening seven days a week, and there is a genuine person on the end of it rather than a message service that passes a note along in the morning. Very late calls are triaged and, unless the situation is urgent, booked first thing.
- Can you get in if I am away?
- Yes, with something agreed in advance — a lockbox code, a neighbour, or a tenant who will be there. Tell us when you book rather than when the technician is outside, and we will make sure the visit is scheduled around whoever holds the key.
